Every decision a Fire Chief makes is temporary.

The next Mayor, City Manager or Chief can change them.

Whether it is about policy, procedure, personnel, tactics, strategy, or the budget, none of the Chief’s decisions are permanent; except one.

Decisions made about the design and functionality of a firehouse are permanent. You only get one chance on this one.

You need to get it right.

FIREHOUSE #7

2005 – Major Remodel

Built in 1937 - WPA Project

Historic Building designation effected design

Remodel twice before

Added 125 sq ft to an existing 3431 sq ft

Concrete floor, walls & ceiling,    yes, ceiling

Active entire time

Asbestos abatement

Required both trailer units from above projects

Gutted kitchen, dining room, captain’s office & bathroom

Added a small amount of square footage

Unique original framing material proved challenging

Electrical hook up for generator but no room for permanent one

Concrete floor as finished floor

An old doorway was intentionally left in outline form. The stucco would  have cracked at the seams anyway.
